Team Behavior

People and process are two key aspects. We start six sigma project in great enthusiasm. We arrange team meetings. Discussion happens at its peak. Many people contributes positively. In end, many projects ends in quick fix. In team meetings, many people have apprehensions about cost approvals, additional responsibilities, or failure of previous efforts.

Behaviour of management, leadership , and team about problem solving is very important. No problem is so big a right minded people can’t solve with right resources. System constraints limits thinking. More than that behavioural thinking affect. People has back in mind some apprehensions, doubts, and constraints. It is all natural in problem solving.

Rigidity is one issue that is killer in project environment. Too flexible or too rigid approach can kill any project. Open and transparent mind needed to solve issues. Free space in all minds make discussion more productive. Preconceived ideas/ experiences may not solve issues. Listening and sharing makes any meeting productive. No single man can solve complex issues in today’s world. Small productive teams needed to resolve it.

Bulldogging the idea is common trend. Management loves such people. But these people has side effect, they may listen less. They want influence and respect from all. Problem solving through repression is only mean.

Preconceived withdrawal is another trait. “we have tried it all- Nothing works”. Management generally suggest people who have already failed in such idea. They may be good in documentation. They make good root cause analysis on paper. But fail in solution.

Team’s behaviour pattern is very important. Just giving spare resources wont solve problem and it hurts organizational thinking. Problem can be solved. But needs right frame of mind.
