Input -Output Matrix
Introduction
As one realizes after a time, every process has inputs and outputs. Inputs to a process can be inherent process inputs, controlled variables, and/or uncontrolled variables. Inherent process inputs are normally the physical materials needed to complete the process. The controlled variables are obviously the inputs one has a degree of jurisdiction to control. Finally uncontrolled variables are those items which are beyond your control. All of these types of inputs can be categorized as Key Process Input Variables (KPIV).

The important outputs of a process are commonly referred to as Key Process Output Variables(KPOV) An example of KPOVs are profits, customer satisfaction, and defect rate.

  • The Input/output worksheet is constructed to provide details for each process activity that makes up the target process.
  • Each activity in the process uses sme r all of the process "Inputs" supplied components, resources, and management controls.
  • All factors (or X's) might influence process performance.

  • Fields for IO Worksheet
Prepare this IO sheet in excel with these different columns

    Process Step

List all steps of process- like Batch prepration

    VA/NVA

Identify process step as VA /NVA -like Value added (VA)

    SOP

Mention the SOP Number of the process step - WI 31

    Input

List types of inputs going into the process- Raw material/Information/HR/SOPs etc- like operator

    Type of Input

    • Each input corresponding to a process step could be of different types
    • Types of input to be selected like - Raw material/Information/Equipment/Utilities/Human resource/SOP/Work Instruction/Process control/Regulation/Policy/Measurement
    • One process step could have one/more input(s) of some /all of the types
    • One input would have one /multiple characterstic(s) relevent to project (Y)

    Characteristic of Input- KPIV /X

      for example
    • Purity of Propane
    • Quantity of Propane
    • RPM of motor
    • No of blages on agitator
    • Skill of operator
    • Motivation of operator
    • No of year -experince of operator

    C/N

Categorize the identified characteristic as controllable or Contrallable noise, Non Controllable noise, Co-variate (non controllable noise)

    Specification

Mention the specifications of controllable input- (200+/-5)

    Capabilities

Mention process capabilities of X's like -Cp=1.33, Cpk =1

    MSA

      P/SV=4%, P /T =3%, or No of Distinct Categories =6

    Key Outputs- KPOV / Y

List all outputs from the process and related details -means goods and services created and delivered by the process - Effluent, Trained Operator

    Characteristic of Output

Mention specific characterstic of the output- like -Cyanide PPM, Training Score

    Specification

Specification of that output - like passing marks of training >90%, Customer specification cyanide < 0.2 PPM

    MSA

Mention MSA valued for the oputput features. No of distict category >4, P/T>3%

    Z Score/capability

DO mention Z score of outpit like Z(st) = 2.46, capabilities Cpk >2
