Performance Management – Flat vs Extreme

I am working in a team of equally capable Black belts. Job role is same and it is very difficult for my managers to defend our ratings. Working with multiple managers is another compulsion or business requirement.  In absence of clear cut goal setting and output, In year end, my manager feel lost to defend our ratings. Salary differential in group is another dimension.

In 2011, our manager got confused and rated us all as very good. Everyone was happy as it was a non-event for all. Attitude changed in system, if you work or not, hardly matters.

Last year, manager changed and perception changed. We all got extreme ratings this time. Some got on upper side and some got on lower side. Now I am facing extremely uncomfortable environment in department. Drive and motivation are on extreme. He got maximum rise, he has to work extra. Averages rated are more silent spectator. Lower graded are looking for other function or profile. Point here is extreme rating made psychological impact on us.

Same is happening with our Indian legal system, you do crime or good work. hardly matters. Rewards and recognition of good work is missing. Anna Hazare worked hard whole life and now Media is torturing him for good work. System must reward right performance. Then only, well balanced performances will come and company/society will sustain longer.

Invisible Children

I watched KONY 2012 video and collected some information about him. He suddenly came to news after a documentary “Invisisble Children” came in existence. Internet is curious to know about him. Joseph Kony, a former church altarboy, has spread terror through eastern and central Africa for almost three decades. His army has abducted and forced an estimated 66,000 children to fight for them.. Joseph Kony whose LRA dismembered, cut off lips, ears, fingers, hands, feet off of the innocent to keep them in fear.

His troops often come into villages and kill the adults then rape the girls and force the boys to fight in his army. Kony stopped attending church when he was 15 and practices of kind of Christianity mixed with African spirituality, believing the sign of the cross will physically protect him and his soldiers from harm.

Kony believes in polygamy, and as of 2007 he was thought to have 88 wives, along with 42 children.

Meantime, People in Africa are also telling it as wrong propaganda. Difficult to say what is right. Kony insists that he and the Lord’s Resistance Army are fighting for the Ten Commandments. Mixing god with weapon is little strange. Religious leaders work on extremes. Some of them pray for nonviolence while other wants rule of god on violence.

Responsibility, Balance and Growth – Three Main Pillars

Responsibility brings existence. Living responsible life is necessary in all forms. It is difficult to maintain discipline and responsibility in all parts of life. However, it is necessary that we should maximise the responsible behaviour. In current environment of internet, it is difficult to train the person on time management. Owning the behaviour and mistakes are necessary.

Balance brings sustainability. Balance makes us more controlled and bring sense in our life. Balancing financial life, family, personal, and social life is necessary for well managed development. Any imbalance creates long term chronic problems. Eating imbalance meal may lead to physical problems. Physical, emotional, and intellectual values should be inculcated.

Growth brings happiness. Pushing things to next level is necessary to celebrate human existence. Making something memorable will make our existence meaningful. People live in mirage what brings happiness ultimately it is growth which press us to achieve more. It is difficult to achieve first two pillars are missing.

All personal problem’s solutions lie in these three pillars.
